Raptors: Precious Achiuwa’s improved stats off the bench are startling

Raptors: Precious Achiuwa’s improved stats off the bench are startling

The Toronto Raptors needed to make some lineup alterations when Pascal Siakam came back into the lineup, and putting Precious Achiuwa on the bench seemed like the most logical move. Not only was Siakam likely to bump a frontcourt player down to the bench, but Achiuwa had been playing some very inconsistent basketball lately. Achiuwa […]

Getting to know Hagen Danner, a catcher the Blue Jays have converted into a pitching prospect

The Blue Jays may not make the playoffs this season. In fact, with each passing day, Blue Jays fans are getting the Julius Caesar treatment. All these winnable games that have turned into losses are the equivalent to Caesar getting poked 23 times at the steps of the Pompey Theatre. It’s been a slow and painful season to watch a team underperform.

It’s not all bad, however, as the one thing I find enjoyable with the Blue Jays at the moment is writing articles about current prospects, which is what this article will be about.
With the 61st pick in the 2017 draft:
I’ve mentioned this player before in an article. In fact, Hagen Danner’s name came up in my last article about Chavez Young.  The Toronto Blue Jays drafted a 18-year-old catcher/pitcher Hagen Danner out of Hunting Beach High School. According to Pipeline’s top 200 draft picks, these are Hagen Danner’s grades and there are a lot of them as a 2-way player.
Grades:
As a hitter:
Hit: 50
Power: 45
Run: 30
Arm: 60
Field: 55
Overall: 50
As a pitcher:
Fastball: 60
Curveball: 50
Changeup: 50
Control: 55
Overall: 50
Hagen Danner ranked as the 41st best draftable prospect in 2017, so how did he …

Cavan Biggio heads to the Injured List, Corey Dickerson has been activated

Corey Dickerson will make his Blue Jays debut tonight against Cleveland.

The Blue Jays announced on Tuesday that Dickerson has been activated from the 10-day Injured List and that Cavan Biggio will be going on the IL in a corresponding move.
Dickerson was acquired from the Miami Marlins back in late June in the same deal that brought Adam Cimber to the Blue Jays. He suffered a foot injury playing with the Marlins back on June 15 and hasn’t played since.
Through 62 games this season, Dickerson is slashing a .260/.321/.377 line with two homers and 12 doubles and a 45-to-16 strikeout-to-walk ratio. These numbers for Dickerson aren’t as good as they have been in the past, but, based on his home and away splits, there’s some reason to believe he can be better now that he isn’t playing in Miami.
Dickerson is best known for his time with the Colorado Rockies and Tampa Bay Rays. Between 2014 and 2017, he put up an .835 OPS and hit 85 homers over 1889 plate appearances. He was an All-Star in 2017 with the Rays and was traded in the off-season.
And then there’s Biggio, who’s heading to the IL with a neck/back issue that’ …

Toronto Raptors: 2 starting lineups combinations with Scottie Barnes

Toronto Raptors: 2 starting lineups combinations with Scottie Barnes

The Toronto Raptors decided to make Florida State standout Scottie Barnes the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, as they were so intrigued by his style of play and athletic gifts that they decided to bypass expected No. 4 pick Jalen Suggs, who was taken with the next selection by the Orlando […]

2 bold trades that make the Toronto Raptors contenders in 2022

2 bold trades that make the Toronto Raptors contenders in 2022

The Toronto Raptors have a massive decision to make on July 29 at the 2021 NBA Draft. The consensus belief is to always keep your future options open and select young and up-and-coming talent. However, at times, there may be an opportunity to snatch quality talent sacrificing draft capital. That strategy could make the team […]

Giving Zach Bogosian a contract extension is a no-brainer

It’s hard not to make a case for Zach Bogosian being the Leafs’ most pleasant surprise of the 2021 campaign.
When he signed with the team to a one-year, $1 million contract back in October, expectations of what he could provide to the Leafs were rather low in spite of coming off winning his first Stanley Cup with the Lightning. He played well in his role as a defensive defenceman and was a factor in why Toronto improved from 3.17 GA/G in 2019-20 to 2.64 this past season. With a full campaign donning the Blue and White under his belt, it makes total sense to keep him on board for another year.
Even with the defence being crowded next season (including the likes of Rasmus Sandin and Timothy Liljegren battling for roster spots), Bogosain’s game style is unique and valuable enough to warrant him a member of the Leafs for 2021-22. It certainly helps that one of Travis Dermott or Justin Holl will likely be heading to Seattle in the upcoming expansion draft.
Part of the reason why some fans were initially skeptical of Bogosian was due to him recently playing for the Buffalo Sabres and seeing his career take a …

Blue Jays Continue to Deepen Bullpen with Acquisition of Trevor Richards

The Blue Jays continue to make trades to improve the bullpen. It started with Adam Cimber and continued with the acquisition of Trevor Richards (and Bowden Francis) from the Brewers in exchange for Rowdy Tellez.

Briefly, Francis looks like a depth piece for the Bisons. He’s having a nice season in AAA with a 3.49 ERA but he’s a fringe prospect ranked 25th in the Brewers system per FanGraphs. He may make it to the Majors as a back-end starter, a Jacob Waguespack type. However it may be difficult for Francis to crack the Blue Jays roster as he is not on the 40-man so the Blue Jays would have to find a way to clear a spot for him.
The main piece in the deal for the Blue Jays was Richards. Richards has already been traded once this season, going with Willy Adames from Tampa to Milwaukee. With the Rays, Richards has an inflated ERA of 4.50 with much better underlying stats (3.41 FIP, 2.72 xFIP), and with the Brewers that was flipped. His ERA was 3.20 but with a high FIP (3.97) and xFIP (4.33). Putting everything together Richards in 31.2 innings has a 3.69 ERA supported nicely with a 3.76 FIP and 3.72 xFIP
Richards provides …

Raptors: Is Ben Simmons sign-and-trade feasible after nixed Pacers offer?

The Toronto Raptors, should they be looking to make a super-aggressive move in order to get back to the postseason, might need to call up a hated rival and potential Kyle Lowry destination in the Philadelphia 76ers, as they appear to be listening to offers on All-Star point guard and former No. 1 overall pick […]
