Joel Embiid says the Toronto Raptors are the only team who plays solid defense against him

Joel Embiid says the Toronto Raptors are the only team who plays solid defense against him

While Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid is an MVP candidate, and arguably the best offensive big man in the game today, the Toronto Raptors have been a thorn in his side for years. Be it Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka, or even Aron Baynes this season, Toronto has done a solid job of keeping Embiid in […]

Toronto Raptors: Khem Birch likely headed to Toronto as Magic plan to waive him

Toronto Raptors: Khem Birch likely headed to Toronto as Magic plan to waive him

The Toronto Raptors have been looking for center help all season long due to the poor production of Aron Baynes, and they might’ve just found an answer in the form of a native Canadian. With the Orlando Magic starting to rebuild, it looks like center Khem Birch, who was born in Montreal, has played his […]

Toronto Raptors: Top 5 Centers in franchise history

Toronto Raptors: Top 5 Centers in franchise history

The center position hasn’t been very kind to the Toronto Raptors over the years, as countless promising big men at that position have fizzled out. They’ve tallied just one meek little all-star appearance in 2001. The rest of the Toronto All-Stars have played positions 1-4, making the all-star player appearances a 23-1 ratio for Raptors […]

Toronto Raptors: Pass or pursue on LaMarcus Alridge

Toronto Raptors: Pass or pursue on LaMarcus Alridge

The Raptors have a very definite need at the center position, as the second half of this 2021 season began against the Atlanta Hawks when the Raptors fell 121-120. Names like Andre Drummond, JaVale McGee, and San Antonio Spurs veteran LaMarcus Aldridge have surfaced as potential Aron Baynes replacements. Baynes, signed in November, is averaging […]

Around the North: Julien fired, McDavid McDaviding, and Ottawa is present

It’s a known fact that Toronto is the center of the universe. It’s equally known that the Maple Leafs are Canada’s team, and to believe other wise would be silly and the cheer for anyone other than the Leafs would be treasonous. That’s part of the reason why we have this site and commit so much of our time to bringing you important Leafs content. That being said, I’ve been told there are still six other teams in the North division and once in a while it don’t hurt to acknowledge what’s going on with them as well. So we’ll do that now.
Edmonton Oilers
It pains me to say that the Oilers are the second best team in the Scotia North Division at the moment. So I’m not going to say that. I’m going to say that the Oilers could be the worst team in the Scotia North Division, but they happened to have Connor McDavid grafted onto them and that takes you a far way. McDavid’s 3 goals and 2 assists on the first five Oilers goals on Saturday night against the Flames somewhat proves that point, and as …

Raptors: Would Toronto be contenders with Andre Drummond?

Raptors: Would Toronto be contenders with Andre Drummond?

The Cleveland Cavaliers had a bit of a logjam at center, as the standout play of young rim-runner Jarrett Allen has made it difficult for JB Bickerstaff to find playing time for both Allen and Andre Drummond. While he came into this season as a potential trade target, rumors have really revved up in recent […]

Toronto Raptors: The Center of their failures

Toronto Raptors: The Center of their failures

The Toronto Raptors have discarded another center. It should come to no one’s surprise, as the man in the middle has always been the Achilles heel of the Raptors. The Toronto Raptors needed just under 60 days to determine what any avid basketball fan could have told them. While he was signed go replace Marc […]

Toronto Raptors: Chris Boucher has the opportunity to be a key player this season

Toronto Raptors center, Chris Boucher, agreed to a two-year contract worth  $13.5 million to return to the team. The second year of his deal is nonguaranteed. Toronto Maple Leafs sign Denis Malgin to one-year extension

The Toronto Maple Leafs have inked center Denis Malgin to a one-year, $700,000 contract extension.

The 23-year-old native of Olten, Switzerland, was drafted by the Florida Panthers in the 4th round of the 2015 draft.
He was acquired by the Leafs in Feb. 2020 in a deal that saw Toronto trade Mason Marchment for Malgin. He appeared in eight games for Toronto scoring no points.
He’s played in 192 NHL games over the last four seasons scoring 28 goals and 60 points.

2019 Leafs Prospect Rankings- Longshots: Riley Stotts

Position: Center,  Calgary Hitmen
Last Year’s Ranking: Not in the Top 20
Drafted: 2018, 3rd Round 83rd overall
Why is Stotts a long shot?
Well, dang. I guess in the sense that most prospects are long shots, and while there has been a consistency about Stotts, we haven’t seen anything particularly electrifying from him. Being a 19 goal center, with 44 points as a center was decent in his draft year, but only jumping up to 57 points in the 2018-19 season, and not improving his goal total in his draft plus one year isn’t going to earn him a lot of fanfare.
To be clear, no one is suggesting writing off Stotts, who was solid on a less than stellar Calgary team last year. It’s just hard to make a case for him playing a role in the future of the Leafs, or even being guaranteed to receive an entry level contract at the end of this season without a significant leap forward.
